Monotype & Mixed Media

My monotypes are created in many layers.
Each print is a unique impression that is combined with further layers of colour, textures and overlays. In a final step, I continue working with brushes, chalk or spatulas – thus merging printing techniques and painting into a unique, lively expression.

This technique allows me to capture the fleeting: traces of bodies, emotions and inner movements that reveal themselves layer by layer.

Oil on canvas

For me, oil on canvas is a space full of possibilities. I work with different layers – sometimes very fine and glazed, sometimes denser and with a noticeable texture. This mixture creates a lively surface in which light, colour and mood influence each other.

I paint people, landscapes and animals, but the focus is always on the feeling. I am interested in the atmosphere of a moment – an attitude, a glance, a light, a movement. My paintings do not tell complete stories. Rather, they are meant to touch, to open something up, to make an inner state visible.

Oil allows me to work intuitively: layer by layer, calmly or impulsively, delicately or powerfully – until the painting has found its own voice.

On motherhood and art

This series was created during the coronavirus pandemic – a period in which art and motherhood were inextricably linked. My days were filled with many different tasks: online studies, homework, childcare, housework, my own artistic work. In between all these tasks, there were short, intense moments when I could paint.

These paintings are about what was palpable every day back then: waiting, closeness, feeling overwhelmed, solidarity, loneliness and the search for one’s own space. My children often had to wait for me at school because appointments overlapped and nothing could be planned. This reality has left its mark on the works. magna aliquam erat volutpat.
